RE-CREATION 30 - 39

Re-Creation 30 – 39 continued the upswing in performance excellence.  Our foray into the ‘snowbird circuit’ in Florida provided to be a boon in two distinct ways….certainly with exposure, as Re-Creation performed all over the state, most years staying in Florida for two whole months…and secondly, with media sales.  We had never had such a sustained opportunity for commercial and church shows where CD and DVD saes were so robust!  These extensive tours to the wonderful people in these amazing communities helped in a dynamic way to equip the mission.  Often times, folks who had seen us at their particular church or community would venture to see us in an actual Veterans Home or Hospital. This crossover of impression left quite a mark on those who were able to catch a live Veterans show.

“We had the pleasure of seeing you perform for our community last week.  The show was amazing!  We had no idea what we were in for when we came, but, boy, we’re glad we did!  It worked out that we could see the group perform at the Port Charlotte, Veterans Home, the following day.  All we can say is “Wow”!  As much as were blessed by the stage show, we were even more blessed by the veterans reactions to the cast and the show!  They performers were so person and so engaging.  Being able to see the show at a VA made us fall in love with Re-Creation even more!” – Florida Concert Attendee

With that extensive tour of Florida came a wonderful relationship with the Florida State Elks Youth Camp.  The group would call the camp home for almost two months out of every year!  Cabin-style stays combined with fantastic meals made this home-away-from-home a valuable destination. We could not have afforded to stay in Florida for the entire season had we been forced to book hotels for every night.  And by this time in the group’s tenure, staying at host families had become a thing of the past.  The FSEA Youth Camp was a fantastic blessing to us…and to the program!  Special thanks to all the folks at the camp for their hospitality and enthusiasm.

“The Florida Elks camp holds a special place in the heart of Re-Creation cast members. The staff and volunteers at the camp always went above and beyond to make the camp feel like home as we were traveling.  On days off, we could enjoy the lake, the ropes course or hiking!  The chef had something amazing prepared for us for every meal!  It’s an amazing place with some of the best people we know!  And it was always very special to all of us…there was even a couple who got engaged in RC 38 at the camp!  The Florida Elks and the camp provide a genuine place with genuine people that allowed us a place of rest and restoration in a season of busy travel and performance!”

This season also brought the Muller children to center stage!  Emma and Ethan began performing regularly with RC 30 and continued to be featured in the show whenever their schedules would allow.  Their natural acumen delighted concert goers!  Emma would continue to perform up through RC 43’s Christmas Show, while Ethan ended is tenure onstage with RC after the 35th edition, just as Elliot started to be featured.  Mary recorded another CD, this one featured mostly original music and was produced by Dave Kazee and Dove Award-winner John Rowsey.  Jay also recorded two quartet CD’s with his buddies, Dave Kazee, Todd Murray and Jim Worthing.  The traditions Quartet had a handful of local shows and folks enjoyed the collection of old-time Gospel Quartets!

This decade also hosted many special events from the RC 30 Era Christmas Re-Union to the RC 35 Era Gospel Re-Union to Alumni Tours and many other special events.  Be sure to check out those wonderful programs under the Special Events tab in the top menu.

Re-Creation 30 – 39 also saw groups get to Alaska and Hawaii, sing at national events and continue to travel the nation in service to America’s Hospitalized Veterans.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS DECADE:

  • Beginning of relationship with Florida State Elks Association. A vibrant champion for RC and our veterans.  We have stayed at the FSEA Youth Camp every year and the association as gifted us with numerous trailers (they don’t last long!) and three vehicles!
  • Onset of our creative relationship with Xavier Francis of Mind’s Eye Music.  Our media has never sounded or looked better!  Xavier has also added his producing talents to our many projects!
  • Performing for a HUGE national convention for BVL in Las Vegas and then again in Reno!
  • Elliot starts performing with RC 34, as Ethan stops with RC 35 and Emma with RC 36 although Emma would return for Christmas shows continually.
  • Erin Stiefel, Prima Ballerina, and personal friend of the Muller’s, came to the Port Trevorton studio often to train the cast members in ballet.  This world-class  artist gave of her time to equip our Re-Creation ambassadors and Erin even was featured in the videos for RC 36, 37 and 38, as she lent her talent to our service!

“I will forever remember my experience of working with Mary as life-changing.  With her instruction and guidance, we were able to find my mix voice that I never knew I had.  After intense vocal training as a classical singer in college, I graduated realizing the dire need for that ‘pop’ sound that the industry craves.  I joined Re-Creation USA and immediately, Mary began working with me on new vocal exercises which transformed my voice into a more controlled sound.  She recognized my free-flying vibrato and helped me to find the voice that has made me more marketable. Since learning from Mary, I have booked many professional gigs with prestigious theatres, theme parks, and more recently, Carnival Cruise Lines.  Her knowledge of the voice and all that it entails, has helped me to build my resume and become the singer that I am today.”

“I am always amazed when we get in the studio or to a video shoot and to see the efforts both Mary and Jay have put into each individual member, to instinctively know what and how to communicate to each performer to get them to perform their best. Be it vocal technique, analogies or something personal, they can always seem to get the kids to shine. Having been in the audio and video business for over 2 decades now, I am so impressed with how differently RC treats their cast and technicians. It is one reason I love getting to be involved on the creative side. It’s amazing how this group can and HAS molded young people to reach and think outside themselves to a greater purpose. No one leaves RC unchanged…I know I didn’t!”

“As fabulous as the finished CD’s and DVD’s turn out, the process is not quite as glamorous!  It was incredibly stressful and exhausting!  Lots of repetition and lots of going back and fixing little details.  You needed stamina to push yourself to perform your best (but of course, Mr. Muller did a good job of pushing you!).  I look back on those recording experiences as some of the most difficult, but also absolutely most fun, creative experiences of my life.”  CAROLYN BAER COLLEY | RC 39 | Alumni Projects
