Re-Creation presents programs at fairs, banquets, conventions, schools, churches and many other public and private venues.

Re-Creation is a non-profit organization whose main service is to America’s Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and State Veterans Homes.  For 30 years, Re-Creation has provided the only continuing, live, therapeutic entertainment presence in our nation’s VA Medical Centers!

Re-Creation has been cited by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge as: “America’s Ambassadors to Hospitalized Veterans”

Entertainment by Re-Creation is much more than a show; it is a unique, caring extension of a gratitude which…

— Transports concerned, dedicated and talented young people into hospital rooms and wards.
— Reaches out to patients who think they have been forgotten.
— Offers a therapy that medical center personnel cite as aiding to healing process.

“The voices, dancing, costumes and presentation are top-notch!  A true professional stage show with all the trimmings!  Our audience was on its feet several times!  Re-Creation offers something other groups simply can’t – a personal touch. I’ve witnessed audiences transformed by this group’s shocking ability to do more than just entertain.  They enliven! They uplift!”  Re-Creation shares their 30-year mission to America’s hospitalized veterans with each audience and you simply cannot see the show without getting absorbed and invigorated by all that is good in America.”  ~ Concert Attendee, Orlando, FL

Re-Creation began in 1976 . . . when Hugh Brooks, the founder of the group, was an instructor at the Pennsylvania State University. While visiting practicum students, he realized that very few institutions have opportunity to benefit from the therapeutic value of live professional entertainment.

Concerned, he organized Re-Creation to offer this service to state centers, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities. Entertainers were enlisted and Re-Creation immediately began institutional performances in Pennsylvania.

Within a very short time Re-Creation was asked to tour for the USO and Veteran Affairs Medical Centers were added to the schedule.

In 1982, the national entertainment program to the VA Hospitals was in danger of being lost altogether . . . there would no longer be a coordinated nation-wide effort to provide our hospitalized veterans with good entertainment, certainly not entertainment that was designed to serve as therapy.

Re-Creation assumed full responsibility for live entertainment to the VA Medical Centers in 1983 and since then has attempted to raise necessary funding and present shows for Medical Centers nationwide. Re-Creation now presents more than 300 shows annually in order to fund tours to VA Medical Centers in all 50 states!

Re-Creation group members arrive at each facility about 4 hours before show time, to set-up equipment, change into costume and visit throughout the hospital to the individual rooms and wards. They take the time to visit personally and intimately with patients, expressing a nation’s gratitude for the veterans’ sacrifices. The visits are lively and enthusiastic. Each veteran is greeted with respect and admiration.

The veterans are then escorted to the performance area…and what a show! Songs from every era presented in a pageantry of lavish, original costuming…original, unique vocal arrangements…dynamic, stylized choreography…and a true, genuine spirit of gratitude!

The show is carefully designed with regard to the diversity of the veteran population.

And audience participation is an absolute must in a Re-Creation VA show!  The cast members circulate among our heroes, shaking hands, touching shoulders, engaging the veterans with sincerity and honor!  Re-Creation leaves copies of the CD’s and DVD’s with every VA visit so the patients may watch or listen to the show again and again!  These materials are used to lift morale and even in physical rehab sessions!

Re-Creation always ends the program with heartfelt words of thanks for the veterans. This is probably one of the most impacting times in the program. The group’s goal is to remind these very special men and women that they are not alone, and that there are people in this country who are aware and appreciative for what our veterans have done for America.

After the closing patriotic finale, the group members spend more time visiting, signing pictures and then take everyone back to his or her room, pack-up equipment and drive on…averaging about 300 miles a day!

Our goal is to meet

“Every Veteran…Every Day!”

“Dear Re-Creation, I would like to personally express my appreciation to you and your very fine group of young adults for the wonderful music presented to our veterans. Our hearts soared as we listened to those tried and true patriotic melodies. I couldn’t help but sing along! Not only was the music presented beautifully, but your singers were warm and inviting and extremely professional in their presentation. Thank you all for giving your time and talents to our veterans and to our beloved USA . Please know that you are welcome to come and sing for us any and every chance you get! You made our day!” ~ Birmingham , AL VAMC

“Dear Re-Creation, This year’s performances were outstanding! The cast and crew were extremely energetic and outgoing. Their room visits and interactions with the audience made everyone feel honored. The production was a great morale booster and very therapeutic for our veterans. Thank you for your generosity and concern for the morale and welfare of our hospitalized veterans.” ~ San Antonio , TX VAMC

BVLThe Bowlers to Veterans Link:
Still There for our Troops

Sixty years ago, America’s league bowlers answered the call of a nation heading into war. Critical supplies were needed overseas — U.S. forces wounded on the battlefields of Europe were not getting the medical care they needed. The Bowlers Victory Legion was borne to raise money to purchase medical evacuation planes and to support America’s troops.

Now the BVL helps provide recreational materials to VA Medical Centers and State Homes across America! The BVL also helps contribute to Re-Creation VA tour costs. In fact, The BVL is Re-Creation’s longest-running sponsor, partnering with us for more than 30 years in service to our nation’s veterans!

God moved in our services and the people of Concord were truly blessed. I have received nothing but positive comments about the services. Thank you so much for allowing the Re-Creation team to come to our church. Let me also commend your organization for what is done at our nations’s veteran hospitals. Your organization is truly a blessing to the men and women who have served our country in uniform.”

Pastor Jamie Brock,
Concord Baptist Church, Chiefland, FL

“The program by the cast of Re-Creation is one of our student body’s very favorite assemblies. The songs, the costumes, and the professionalism of the show are all very enticing and used very well. They appeal to all the students and help to get across a very strong and important message: believe in yourself, stay in school, and trust your teachers and parents. With all the problems in schools today, Re-Creation sheds a wonderfully positive and “cool” light on being successful”

amandaDuring my senior year of high school, I was unsure about my next step. I had been accepted to college, but didn’t feel ready. I’d heard about the performance opportunity with Re-Creation, contacted them, auditioned and joined two days after my high school graduation. That decision was life changing. I committed to one year with the group, but quickly realized I was in no hurry to leave. I served in Re-Creation for 2 years, then entered college, earned a degree in Elementary Education. I taught for 10 years. I was also very active in local theater and hit the jackpot with a show about Patsy Cline. I portrayed Cline, to sold out shows for months. That brought me enough notoriety to produce and’ star in my own Christmas show each year. In 2001, I was hired by WICU in Erie, Pa., the NBC news affiliate. I have been the nightly news anchor for the TV station since that time. When I look back and reflect on what brought me to this place in my life and career I realize that it all started with the life lessons I learned in Re-Creation. I developed a sense of compassion, patience, and a strong work ethic. Taking on responsibilities, and completing them to the best of my abilities made me feel worthwhile, and that my life had great purpose. I carry those traits today in my job, my performing, and my responsibilities as wife and mother. Dedicate one or two years of your life to Re-Creation and I guarantee you’ll learn how precious life is…and what amazing things you can do with your time here on earth!

katelynI earned my BA in Vocal Performance and immediately began hitting open calls at theme parks and cruiseships. Things were not as glorifying as I had anticipated and not one callback to my name. My family had seen a Re-Creation show and sent me the link to their website. At first dance, joining the group locked like it would be a fun experience and a chance for me to sing everyday. You could say that I had no idea what I was diving into. I was invited to join the 35th edition and almost as soon as I did, my life changed morally, personally, vocally and every which way you can think. I couldn’t have made a better decision! The personal training and feedback is unparalleled and I’m all the better for embarking on that journey. I’ve had steady work and lead roles in legitimate theatres. And my next step is really exciting… I’ll be singing in a new theatre show at Dollywood this upcoming season! I owe so much gratitude to Re-Creation for my success in improving my vocal performance, confidence, and finally being recognized at auditions. If you’re a performer looking to hone your craft, you cannot underestimate the Re-Creation experience!

With Re-Creation you learn to set up your own equipment, maintain costumes and props, deal with clients, problem solve on the run, and everything else that makes a show happen. You don’t get an opportunity like this in many companies. Now I’ve traveled all over the world and performed for hundreds of thousands of people.

jordonRe-Creation is a beautiful mission that allows a performer to grow not only in their craft, but spiritually and emotionally. While the cast members are not paid, there Is nothing more ‘valuable to a performer than the chance to perform every day. Here I have had the opportunity to work with world-class artists In the areas of dance and music. As a college graduate In theatre performance and as a commercially-paid performer in casts nation-wide and internationally . . I know the rigors of the professional world. Re-Creation challenges my performance standards while offering unique opportunities, opportunities sometimes unavailable in the strictly commercial world. To explore yourself and grow and interact with your cast mates. To be challenged by a diverse group of varying abilities and backgrounds. To perform different, varied programs in every style1 from legit to broadway to pop. To give back through the groups VA Medical Center tours. Like any company, you have your hard days, but the sense of fulfillment is worth any sacrifice. Seeing the reaction of the men and women in the VA hospitals every day, and knowing what a difference you’ve made in their lives is a bonding experience like no other. In Re-Creation, I’ve performed for audiences small arid large, public and private” sacred and secular . . and I can truly say I have learned so much.

David“Coming from a commercial theme park setting to Re-Creation, many would feel that this decision would be “taking a step back”, but I am here to say that it is the exact opposite! The amazing private vocal training, Ballet training, and the intense high octane performance order all under direction of some of the best educators in the entertainment business has really helped me not only grow as a performer but also as an individual! I’ve learned so much about my voice and dance technique that I feel very confident for future vocal and performance auditions! Re-Creation gives you the exact training that you will need in order to have a successful audition for a theme park, cruise line, or entertainment company. This has definitely been a decision worth making! I believe that it’s never taking a step back if you make the most out of this opportunity and give 100% percent, and that’s what Re-Creation offers! You work hard, give it your all, and know that anything is possible with the right work ethic and training! That’s what Re-Creation has showed me!”

mitch“I have been an athlete for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until my senior year of college when I was cast as an extra in the movie High School Musical 3, that I felt like there might be an opportunity for me in entertainment. Soon after, I auditioned for and was cast as a part of Re-Creation’s 36th edition. I spent two years in service with Re-Creation. During that time, I received top notch training in performance, professional and personal skill sets. And since leaving the group, I’ve found these skills to be invaluable to me as I attempt to make my mark in the commercial performing world. The auditioning process is brand new territory for me. But when I walk into a room to sing in front of a panel of professional casting directors, I don’t feel at a disadvantage. I feel prepared. I owe much of that confidence to experience gained from Re-Creation. Since hitting the circuit, I’ve received professional callbacks at nearly every audition! And I was just recently cast as a singer at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL. I am increasingly thankful to Re-Creation for a priceless experience that has changed my life!”

Re-Creation friends and interested individuals joined together in 1987 to form F.O.R-C.E.S. Friends of Re-Creation Extending Service. F.O.R-C.E.S. members contribute $1.00 a day, or $360.00 per year to Re-Creation. That money is kept in a separate account and is not used for general Re-Creation operating expenses, but is distributed directly to the members of the group to help them offset the expenses of a year-long mission tour. Re-Creation performers are bright, dedicated young professionals who feel a call to travel this country in service to our veterans. And while they know they will not be “paid” for their work, F.O.R-C.E.S. contributions are crucial to their being able to “give up” a year of their lives in service to others.

“Many of my friends went directly into the job market after college. I would have had to as well, considering my loans and all. But I also knew that Re-Creation’s work in the VA Medical Centers was something I truly wanted to experience and be a part of. I’m so grateful to the F.O.R-C.E.S. members for their loyal support. They’ve provided the only means for me to be able to work, serve, and fulfill a dream!”
